President's Corner - September 2006

Well, it's that time of the year again—the chance to renew old friendships and memories and to get that important update from the AIA commander on what is in store for the command in the future months. Yes, it's the 25th annual FTVA reunion that celebrates the establishment and development of a great organization, one we're all proud to be a part of. Thanks to Major General Doyle Larson, FTVA was started in July 1981. When you see him at the reunion let him know how much his efforts have meant to you.

Your board of directors is fully engaged with an action group from Security Hill to do the detailed planning for the September 28-30 events. As I've participated in this planning over the past several years, I'm always struck with just how much has to get done to make our reunion a success. Based on our most recent discussions with the active duty folks, everything is on track for the fall. If the summer is any indication, plan on very warm weather. If you're attending this year, keep an eye out for our newest FTVA memento; FTVA baseball caps commemorating our 25th anniversary.

This will bring a close to my first year as your president. It has been a pleasure to lead the monthly sessions we hold to review how our association is doing, and I want to thank and praise your directors for their time and effort in guiding the association's course. Your association is strong both financially and in terms of commitment to preserving and strengthening our heritage, and supporting important people recognition programs for today's active duty force.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank two long time members of the FTVA board Col (Ret) Bill Ballard and Col (Ret) Grover McMakin. They both left some very big shoes to fill.

It is my honor and privilege to serve as your president. Keep in touch,

Bob Crabtree
